Bio
Doug Menelly

New York businessman and Prostate Cancer Climb Sponsorship Director. Menelly’s father Mario had hoped to climb Mt. Aconcagua in 2001, but as a victim of stage four prostate cancer—a serious level of encroachment—the elder Menelly was more concerned about saving his health, and his life. Climbing in his father’s name, Doug Menelly served as a member of the Aconcagua trekking team, a group of climbers and survivors that pushed all the way to 16,000 feet in support of the summit team.

Doug and his family give thanks each day now that dad's cancer is in check. “He beat all the odds by a mile and the doctors could not figure it out,” Doug says with a smile. “Although we all understand that it may come back, we also realize that we should be positive and continue to push forward and try to help others.”

Amazingly, doctors scoffed at the idea of Menelly’s father taking a PSA (prostate specific antigen), the standard test for prostate cancer, because they said at age forty-three he was too young for the disease. Statistics now show that one out every five patients is under the age of sixty.
