Every Day is a Good Day
by Bob Butler

I am 75 years old and going into 7 years as a prostate cancer survivor. We have 2 sons, a son in law, 2 grandsons and 2 great grandsons, so I am truly dedicated to research, life style changes and more information regarding prostate cancer.

In 1994 I was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer, Gleason 9 and possibly outside the prostate. After 38 radiation treatments, PSA still high and rising, I started hormone treatments with shot and Eulexin in May 95. I chose bilateral orchectomy in December 1995 and continued with Eulexin. Then I put myself on a regiment of vitamins and changed eating habits and lifestyle. I've been off Eulexin since August 1999 with slow rise in PSA. I feel great.

I've been retired 20 years and at the age of 64 decided to take up running. Even during radiation I continued to run for pleasure. I'm no Speedy Gonzales but I've got endurance. I've run a half marathon, dual parachuted out of a plane, hiked the tallest peaks in Texas since my diagnosis, but I've never trekked a mountain.

Every day is a good day and I do have the zest to live life to the fullest. I have a great back up from my family,so I am ready to give my best for research and awareness of prostate cancer.

I have never met any of the other trekkers or climbers, but it seems we all have one thing in common. We all want more awareness of prostate cancer, and are hopeful for the day when all men and their wives take prostate cancer more serious, and men do more research after diagnosis and before treatment.

Sincerely,
Bob Butler
