Hap's Story
by Bobbie Weyman

Hap Weyman and Family

Bobbie WeymanIn June of 1988, after my husband Hap had the PSA est done, we were told he had prostate cancer. That was the worse news I could hear. I went upstairs, once we got home from the Dr. and cried my heart out. I prayed, but at the time I felt God wasn't listening.

We called our minister and called our 3 children home so we could tell them in person. Hap had his surgery July 5, 1988 and it lowered his PSA but not enough.

Hap had radiation for awhile and I drove him to Studio City daily and picked him up at night. He was Production Manager for the t.v. industry. He was asked to do a pilot "Capital News" and part of the filming was in Washington D.C. We went in the spring of 1989.

By Oct. of '89, after his radiation and orchiectomy, the cancer flared up and he was hospitalized because of the pain. I stayed with him day and night. One evening he asked me to call the kids home. He wanted their permission to die.

I was his constant companion and at times his only care giver because he was the love of my life and my best friend. We made a room for him in the family room once we got him home. The girls came from Sacramento often.

WE tried to continue having guests in our home as often as possible. We continued with our Bible study group and people prayed. He asked his life long friends to our home so he could tell them what was going on. Aug. 29, 1989 was our 25th wedding anniversary and the kids, spouses and 2 grandchildren gave us a fabulous party with many friends.

Before Christmas of '89 he dismissed all the nurses and aides and the girls swapped weeks to help out. Terry was in Chiropractic School at the time. When he graduated, Terry had a party and I remember Hap saying, "it's so nice to hear laughter in this house again".

WE planned his funeral together and when he died on Jan. 11, 1990 I knew he went home to be with the Lord. Up to the end, he was in such pain and it was so hard to watch but the last few seconds, he had the most beautiful smile on his face and his lips said "ah luvs ya" and died. There's so much I could write about it, all I can really say to all wives, is support and love your husbands to the fullest. Enjoy every moment you have together (even the bad times. None of us knows when God will call us home.
